WHO, WTO, IMF and World Bank Want Vaccines for Poor Countries

The heads of the World Health Organization (WHO), World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) have issued a collective call for Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers to prioritize the poorest countries.

In a joint statement, the organizations argue that countries that are further along in the vaccination process should quickly release doses to the poorest countries.

“We reiterate the urgency of providing access to Covid-19 vaccines, testing and treatment for people across the developing world,” reads the statement, quoted by French news agency AFP.

“We urge countries with advanced Covid-19 vaccination programs to rapidly cede as many of their contracted vaccine doses and options as possible to Covax, AVAT (African Vaccine Acquisition Trust) and low- and middle-income countries.”

The four international organizations have created an anti-covid vaccination task-force for developing countries to identify and resolve production bottlenecks.
