South Africa is making history with the first Covid-19 vaccines, produced in Africa for Africa, recently launched by ASPEN Pharmacare from its factory in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, in July 2021.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said in his weekly bulletin on the Twitter platform, noting that “these vaccines will be made available to the rest of the African continent through the African Vaccine Taskforce that we created during our tenure as Chair of the African Union.
Thanks to the efforts of all involved in the multi-sectoral vaccine procurement response, he continued, “we now have a comfortable supply of stocks to vaccinate our population.”
He stressed the importance of the posts having information points where those interested can receive clear details, in their own languages, about the different vaccine options available.
The Statesman encouraged South Africans to continue to follow the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the country’s National Department of Health around Covid-19 vaccines.
“We must avoid spreading misleading and false information that can cause confusion,” he concluded.
