Qatar Pursuing Cooperation with Mozambique on Hydrocarbons

Qatar’s Minister of State for Mineral Resources and Energy, Ahmad Al Sayeg, said that his country wants to cooperate with Mozambique in the hydrocarbons sector, taking advantage of the enormous potential that the two States have in this field.

The official was speaking during a meeting with the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, Max Tonela, in Moscow, the Russian capital.

“We really see great opportunities to cooperate in the energy sectors and beyond,” said Sayeg.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the plenary meeting of the Kimberley Process, an international entity responsible for overseeing the diamond trade, which finished last week.

Ahmad Al Sayeg said that Qatar’s long experience in extracting and exporting natural gas offers a field for collaboration with Mozambique, a country that is preparing to be a major global player in this field, due to the immense reserves of natural gas it has, writes Notícias ao Minuto.

Sayeg added that the two states can also cooperate in other areas, such as agriculture and technology.

Aiming to fulfill the desire for bilateral cooperation, the Qatar minister is going to visit Mozambique next year.

Despite growing international pressure to abandon the use of fossil fuels, the Mozambican government defends that natural gas will be a crucial source for the energy transition as it is the least polluting among fossil resources.
