Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a three-day ceasefire in the war with Ukraine, as Moscow receives American envoys for contacts aimed at relaunching negotiations between the parties.
The suspension of attacks is set to begin at midnight on Saturday and will cover operations against Kyiv, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov. 'The Russian president, supreme commander of the Armed Forces, Vladimir Putin, ordered that, from midnight and for three days, no attacks be launched against Kyiv,' Peskov stated, as quoted by SIC Notícias.
According to the Kremlin, the decision is linked to the presence in Russia of US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who arrived in Moscow on Saturday in an effort to reinvigorate diplomatic efforts around the conflict.
Washington had requested security guarantees from both parties for the duration of the mission. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for his part, assured that Ukraine would not strike Russian territory while the American representatives remain in Moscow.
Following the contacts in Russia, the United States delegation is expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday to continue talks with Ukrainian authorities.
US President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the proposal put forward by his envoys, although Putin has so far rejected the possibility of a trilateral summit involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.
Negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv remain deadlocked, despite fresh diplomatic attempts to bridge the positions of the parties and find a way out of the conflict.
