Paris Summit Outlines Ideas for Post-Pandemic Economic Recovery in African Countries

The two dozen African and European leaders attending the Summit on the Future of African Economies, held Tuesday, 18, in Paris at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, agreed to create new momentum for post-covid-19 recovery.

One of the key decisions, proposed by Macron, is the “immediate” transfer of technology and intellectual capacity in order to empower African countries to produce vaccines, against Covid-19.

Through the African Development Bank (ADB), according to the host, 100 billion dollars should be made available for this purpose.

As for the resumption of growth in the economies of African countries, the leaders present advocated a greater involvement of international partners and the creation of a massive support package to the states of the continent.

The Presidents of Angola, João Lourenço, and Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, attended the event, as well as the Portuguese Prime Minister, António Costa, the South African Head of State, Cyril Ramaphosa, among others, as well as financial institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the African Development Bank, the World Bank
