The Executive Vice Chairman of Nigeria’s National Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta, has said that the commission is now ready to begin launching 5G services nationwide, in line with its commitment to position Nigeria as a technology-driven economy on the global stage.
Danbatta stated that the commission had completed all the necessary paperwork and was now awaiting approval from the federal government to begin providing the services immediately.
The vice president went on to say that the National Communications Commission is now ready to begin implementation and has already submitted the proposal to the federal government for approval as this is the exclusive purview of the federal government.
“Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind by other countries that have implemented services in line with the dynamics of the industry and the demand for emerging technologies around the world,” Danbatta stated.
Nigeria has been allocated three frequency bands needed for 5G coverage, which will be used for deployment, Danbatta said.
In his statement, Danbatta said the move was the result of a series of pre-launch trial exercises previously conducted by the MTN and Airtel networks, which he said justified the Commission’s decision to initiate the nationwide rollout plan.
