Nigeria: Dangote Refinery Prepares to Start Test Runs

Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery could likely begin test runs this week, having received its sixth shipment of crude on Monday 8 January. At a total of one million barrels, the cargo was shipped from the Agbami field, located in the Niger Delta and operated by multinational energy company Chevron.

The arrival of crude cargo from the Agbami field brings the total crude stock received at the facility to six million barrels of oil since the first cargo arrived in December 2023. The consignment serves as a significant step towards preparing the 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery to begin operations, following several years of delay.

Situated in the Dangote Industries Free Zone near Lagos, the $20 billion refinery is poised to meet 100% of Nigeria’s fuel requirements while turning the West African country into a net exporter of refined products, including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet fuel.
