Diplomats Focus on the Next Steps of the 7th Africa–Europe Summit

Ambassadors of the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) reiterated the success of the 7th AU–EU Summit, held in Luanda from 24 to 25 November this year, and, in the spirit of partnership, called for a strategic document outlining concrete actions to be developed in coordination with the United Nations Office in Geneva.

The meeting, which aimed to analyse the outcomes and next steps of the 7th Summit, took place within the framework of the 6th AU–EU Ambassadors’ Dialogue. Diplomats also highlighted the high level of participation and commitment shown by senior representatives of both blocs, considering it a significant milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership between Africa and Europe.

Speaking at the meeting, Angola’s representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ana Maria de Oliveira, underlined the special significance of the 7th Summit, as it marked the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two blocs.

Within the context of the Summit’s central theme, “Promoting Peace and Prosperity through Effective Multilateralism,” Ana Maria de Oliveira stressed that the Luanda Joint Declaration reflects the principles and mandate of the United Nations, with particular emphasis on the role of the United Nations Office in Geneva as a hub for multilateral diplomacy, the promotion of human rights, humanitarian action and sustainable development.

In the area of economic cooperation, the Deputy Head of the EU delegation to the UN in Geneva, Michele Cervone, presented the Lobito Corridor as one of the strategic projects under the European Union’s Global Gateway Strategy for Africa.
