Following its announcement in March, the privatization process for CV Handling is moving into its decisive phase, with the Cape Verdean government formalizing the sale of a 51% stake to the multinational Swissport, thereby officially marking the group’s entry into the ground handling sector, following a bidding process that included six competitors.
The purchase and sale agreement is signed between ASA, as the selling entity, and Swissport Holding Spain, as part of the strategy to modernize the airport sector and attract foreign investment to the country.
With this transaction, and according to the press release, the Cape Verdean government aims to “enhance operational efficiency and introduce international management standards in a segment critical to the functioning of air transport,” at a time when the country is seeking to consolidate its connectivity and establish itself as a hub in the Atlantic.
The government also emphasizes that this privatization is part of a broader set of structural reforms aimed at strengthening the economy and attracting qualified foreign capital.
Cabo Verde Handling, responsible for ground support services for aircraft—ranging from passenger and baggage handling to technical operations—will thus benefit from integration into one of the world’s largest operators in the sector, which could translate into gains in quality, efficiency, and responsiveness to the demands of air traffic.
