Cabo Verde Inflation Edges Down to 1.6% in June

Cabo Verde recorded a 12-month average inflation rate of 1.6% in June, down 0.1 percentage points from May, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Wednesday.

On a year-on-year basis, inflation in Cabo Verde stood at 1.1% in June, an increase of 0.3 percentage points compared with May.

The core inflation indicator — the total index excluding energy and unprocessed food — registered a year-on-year change of 1.4%, which was 0.1 percentage points higher than the figure recorded in May.

The Bank of Cabo Verde (BCV) indicated in May that prices are expected to rise more than previously anticipated this year, revising its inflation estimate upward from 1.7% to 2.7% for 2024.

The outlook deteriorated due to the “worsening of geopolitical tensions”, including the conflict in the Middle East, the central bank noted.
