Africa: Mota-Engil Announces $1.4B Agreement With Allied Gold Corporation. Project Portfolio Increases to $4.3B

The construction company Mota-Engil has signed six contracts valued at 88.4 billion meticals (1.4 billion dollars) with the international gold mining company Allied Gold Corporation, for the operation of all its assets in production in Mali and the Martin Coast and the award of a new mine in Ethiopia.

According to an article published on Friday 15 November by the newspaper Expansão, with the signing of these contracts, Mota-Engil, through its subsidiary for Africa, will ‘progressively take over the engineering services activity to support Allied Gold’s various assets’ in Ivory Coast, Mali and Ethiopia, for a period of between 38 and 60 months.

‘These new contracts and the true partnership with Allied Gold reinforce Mota-Engil Africa’s position as a leading company in support services for mining activities on the African continent and allow us to increase our order book in this area to almost 271.7 billion meticals (4.3 billion dollars) and the Group’s to around one billion meticals (16.5 billion dollars),’ the company said in a statement.

The portfolio of Mota-Engil, a Portuguese conglomerate present on three continents, includes several investments on the African continent, in the areas of engineering and construction and mining. In the area of gold mining, in August 2023 Mota-Engil signed a 33 billion metical (523.2 million dollars) contract with the Managem Group to carry out work on the Boto Gold Mine project in Senegal. In July this year, the company signed an 18.3 billion meticals (290 million dollars) contract with Société des Mines du Mandiana, a subsidiary of the Managem Group, to carry out work to support production at the Tri-K project, a gold mine located in the Siguiri basin, 90 kilometres north-east of the city of Kankan, in Guinea Conakri, where Mota-Engil is the exclusive supplier of mining services at the Siguiri Mine, operated by Anglo Gold Ashanti.
