The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the privatesector arm of the World Bank Group, supports private sector development throughinvestment and advisory services. IFC-s Africa Fragility unit launched theLocal Champions Initiative (LCI) in 2022 to identify and support high‑potentialdomestic companies and prepare them for investment. The program was recentlyexpanded to Mozambique, where 15 Local Champions were selected. Many of thesecompanies face challenges in aligning with international Environmental &Social (E&S) and Corporate Governance (CG) standards. This assignment seeksto assess their E&S and CG readiness, build organizational capacity andleadership commitment, deliver tailored training, develop company‑specificaction plans, and provide support for implementing Environmental and SocialManagement Systems and corporate governance practices aligned with IFC-sstandards and methodologies. It will also integrate monitoring and evaluationin line with LCI-s framework to establish baselines, track progress, measureimpact, and capture lessons learned and success stories, with the ultimate goalof strengthening sustainability, governance, and bankability of Mozambique-sLCI cohort.
