Talks between the Mozambican government and Total Energies are progressing at a satisfactory pace for their return to the biggest private investment undertaken in Africa. The project is estimated at 20 billion euros and includes lines to capture natural gas at great depths in the Rovuma Basin, in Cabo Delgado province, in the north of the country.
There are still no concrete dates for Total’s resumption of the Palma town in Cabo Delgado province, rich in natural resources, where construction of its gas liquefaction plant has been suspended.
The French ambassador to Mozambique, Yann Pradeau, who discussed with the confederation of economic associations in the country the holding of the Mozambique-France Business Forum, to be held in Maputo on 24 and 25 April, without revealing many details assured that talks are ongoing.
“Total has already communicated a lot and meets regularly with the Mozambican authorities. I think it is up to them to say what their problems are and what their industrial timetable is after they make a decision. I cannot speak for them, but what I can say is that we have the opportunity to have a major investor in the fundamental sector for Mozambique and for energy, but not only. We have 65 French companies working in Mozambique, investing in Mozambique and that is the number we want to increase,” he said.
French oil company, Total, left Mozambique with the process of building the industrial complex underway and which is expected to resume activities in July of this year, after the terrorist attack near its camp in the town of Palma in March 2021.
