More than 15 million Mozambicans will use cooking gas in their homes by 2030, replacing firewood and coal, in an effort to preserve the environment and public health.
The information was revealed a few days ago in the city of Nampula by the national director for Hydrocarbons and Fuels, Moisés Paulino, as part of the replication of the initiative for the massification of the use of this energy resource, launched in April of this year by the President of the Republic.
According to Paulino, there will be a campaign to raise awareness in communities about the use of cooking gas in a gradual process, noting that in the city of Maputo, for example, there were neighbourhoods where people no longer needed to buy gas at a service station, as it was available in piped form in homes.
The aim, according to the official, cited by Notícias, is that the gas produced in Temane, in Inhambane province, or in the Rovuma basin, in Cabo Delgado, is not just for export, but also for the domestic market.
In addition to cooking gas, there should also be a massification of the use of vehicular gas. In this context, the start of construction of pilot filling stations for this resource in the provinces of Maputo and Inhambane is planned.
“It means that in 2023 it will be a reality to drive from Maputo to Inhambane in a gas-powered car,” he said, stressing that the Government’s challenge was to have, for example, gas supply infrastructures across the country.
It should be noted that the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, inaugurated in April this year, in the administrative post of Anchilo, Nampula district, a cooking gas depot belonging to Petromoc.
The infrastructure has four tanks with a capacity of 50 metric tons to fill 5500 bottles per day in a normal shift of work.
