Sasol Invests in Temane Gas

The Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy and SASOL announced this week an investment of 755 million US dollars for the Temane Gas Project, after the Final Investment Decision was taken on February 19.

This is one of the crucial projects for the economic development of Mozambique and is framed in the Government’s Five Year Plan 2020-2024. During its implementation, a new light oil and gas processing unit is expected to be built, in addition to generating 3000 jobs until 2024.

In the area of hydrocarbons, the Government is committed to continue with actions aimed at enabling, in this five-year period, the sustainable exploration of natural gas reserves that will open new paths for the development of our country.

The final investment decision taken then will enable the start-up of actions aimed at the exploration of the gas reservoirs of Inhassoro, Temane and Temane-Este, north of the province of Inhambane of the Temane Thermal Power Plant project, of LPG (cooking gas) and light petroleum.

The start of the development phase is scheduled for July this year and it is dependent on the financial closing of the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) project. The Facilitation and Monetization Agreements for the additional natural gas reserves around the Pande and Temane fields are currently being approved.

It is important to mention that this project will allow the viability of two structuring
to be established in the province of Inhambane for the production of electricity and cooking gas, which should be operational by 2023.

The Government’s bet in the present mandate is, among others, the implementation of the first LPG (cooking gas) production unit in the country, in Temane, ensuring that 60% of the volume currently imported is substituted by national production.

On the other hand, the Government will be committed to the implementation of units of the petrochemical industry units for the production of methanol and other derived fuels as well as the production of fertilizers, along with the development of power generation plants, which should be operational by the end of 2024.
