Mozambique May Soon Have a New Fuel Supplier

The Mozambican Oil Importer (IMOPETRO) is looking for a new fuel supplier to supply the country in the next three months, for jet fuel, diesel and petrol.

Since mid-July 2022 these fuels have been supplied by the French company, Totsa, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies.

In an international public tender disclosed a few days ago, IMOPETRO made it known that it needs 150,000 metric tons of premium unleaded petrol, 25,000 metric tons of jet and 400,000 metric tons of 50 ppm diesel.

According to a statement, IMOPETRO said that the tender would be governed by procedures relating to international public tenders similar to those specified in World Bank guidelines and was open to all eligible bidders.

Interested bidders must acquire the specifications at a non-refundable price of US$25,000.

Through Decree No. 45/2012 of 28 December, IMOPETRO is the sole entity responsible for fuel imports in the country. The same decree aims to reduce costs arising from the import and provide greater gains from the process.

The institution currently has 29 fuel distribution companies throughout the national territory.
