The National Petroleum Institute (INP) has revealed that the concession contracts with the companies that won the 6th international tender for hydrocarbon exploration and production will be signed by December of this year. These are the Italian company Eni and the Chinese company China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
According to the INP’s Chairman Nazário Bangalane, the technical sessions to clarify the contractual terms are at an advanced stage, emphasising that “almost two years on from the launch of the tender, we are extremely pleased that we have managed to clarify most of the concerns that investors have presented to our technical team”.
According to him, the interest shown by the companies that won the tender in investing in hydrocarbon exploration and production in Mozambique “is evidence of the importance of the country’s sedimentary basins and its energy potential in the context of the energy transition”.
“The contracts will be valid for at least eight years, which will allow the operating companies to mature the research process during this period, in such a way as to ensure that more resources are produced, with particular emphasis on natural gas, ensuring the injection of cleaner energy that is accessible to the national and international markets,” he clarified.
The 6th tender was launched in November 2021 in Maputo and 13 companies competed, namely China National Offshore Oil Corporation; Hong Kong Holding Limited “CNOOC”; SINOPEC International Energy Investiment Limited; ENI Mozambico SPA; ExxonMobil Mozambique (Offshore) Limited; Petro-China Internacional Iraq FZE; Total Energies Ep New Venture; RN Angoche PTE; Joint Stock Company Novatek; Qatar Petroleum Mozambique Limited; Sasol Africa (PTY) LTD; ONGC Videsh Limited; and Discovery Exploration Limited.
