Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi announced on Saturday (7) in Tete that Mozambique will increase the supply of cooking gas by 60,000 tonnes in the next quarter, which should cover 60% of the country’s consumption needs.
According to Radio Moçambique, in order to realise this goal, a factory is being built in the district of Inhassoro, Inhambane province, with operations expected to begin next year.
According to Nyusi, the new plant will provide a triple advantage: ‘it will reduce gas imports, reduce pressure on charcoal production and contribute to environmental preservation’.
With regard to access to electricity, he highlighted the progress made in 2024, with 518,577 new connections made in the country. Of these, 362,896 are connected to the national grid, while the rest use autonomous systems.
The initiatives reinforce the government’s commitment to expanding access to essential energy resources and promoting sustainability in the country.
