Mozambique Drops Out of Top 10 African Countries with Highest Diesel Prices

As diesel prices continue to soar across parts of Africa, they remain a pressing concern for consumers, businesses, and policymakers alike. In July 2025, the rankings have shifted — most notably with Mozambique dropping out of the top 10, offering a small sign of relief for its fuel market.

Diesel plays a critical role in powering Africa’s economies — from transportation and logistics to agriculture and electricity generation. Unlike gasoline, diesel is the backbone of heavy industry and daily operations in both urban and rural areas.

Despite improvements in infrastructure and policy across some regions, many African countries still face high diesel prices driven by global market volatility, limited refining capacity, and fiscal challenges.

As costs rise, so do food prices, transport fares, and operational expenses for businesses dependent on generators — adding pressure to already strained household budgets and driving inflation higher.

However, developments like Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery and its planned fuel storage hub in Namibia offer hope for a more stable and affordable fuel future across the region.

With that in mind, here are the 10 African countries currently facing the highest diesel prices, according to Global PetrolPrices, updated on July 7, 2025 — when the average global diesel price stood at $1.22 per liter, up from $1.18 in June.

Notably, Uganda has now replaced Mozambique in this month’s ranking.
