Area 4: Eni’s South Coral FLNG Project Reaches Record Production of 25 Thousand Cubic Metres Per Day

The Coral Sul FLNG project, operated by Italy’s Eni SpA in the Rovuma basin in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, reached its daily production record of 25,013 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG) on 17 August.

According to the newspaper Noticias, the project currently produces a daily average of around 24,000 cubic metres of LNG, which allows for a weekly shipment of the resource and a shipment of condensates every two months.

Since the start of operations, the project has carried out 75 shipments of this resource and 11 of condensates. The operator recently shared this information with the chairman of the board of directors of Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH), Ludovina Bernardo, the Mozambican state’s representative on the project, who visited the floating platform.

On the occasion, she emphasised that the project ‘consolidates the country’s development agenda’ and proves Mozambique’s ability to attract investment for structuring initiatives with an impact on the economy. She also expressed satisfaction at the presence of young Mozambicans on board, saying: ‘We are reaping the results of training the national labour force.’

Ludovina Bernardo also advocated a greater contribution from the multinationals that exploit natural resources in Mozambique, especially in the Rovuma basin, in terms of local content, to allow the national private sector to participate in the projects.

The Coral Sul FLNG floating platform, anchored in ultra-deep waters off Cabo Delgado province, has been producing and exporting LNG and condensates since October 2022. The project is operated by Eni, on behalf of the Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV) consortium, with a 70 per cent stake, while ENH, Galp and Kogas hold 10 per cent each.
