Invest in African Energy Forum: Mozambique Seeks New Partners for LNG Projects

The Invest in African Energy 2025 forum, one of the most important international events on financing energy projects in Africa, will take place in Paris on 13 and 14 May. The event will bring together investors, sector leaders and political decision-makers, highlighting Mozambique as one of the main destinations for investments in liquefied natural gas. With traditional financing for fossil fuels facing restrictions, the country is looking to attract new partners to expand its LNG exploration and infrastructure projects.

According to Engineering News, organised by Energy Capital & Power, the forum aims to boost investment in the African energy sector by connecting international financial institutions, multilateral development banks, private equity funds and African governments.

The International Energy Agency estimates that Africa will need 200 billion dollars (12.7 trillion meticals) annually by 2030 to guarantee universal access to modern energy. Mozambique, with its vast gas reserves, is playing a central role in this endeavour and wants to raise more funding to develop its resources.

In recent years, the country has established itself as one of the most promising destinations for investments in natural gas, with mega-projects operated by industry giants such as TotalEnergies, ExxonMobil and Eni. The exploitation of resources in the Rovuma basin represents a strategic opportunity for Mozambique to integrate into global energy supply chains, in a context of growing global demand for alternative sources to coal.

The Invest in African Energy 2025 forum is taking place at a decisive moment for the country, which is seeking to strengthen its gas processing and export capacity. Mozambique currently has onshore and offshore LNG infrastructures under development, but faces challenges related to financing, security and long-term viability.

Growing competition from other African countries such as Namibia, Ivory Coast and South Africa, which have also made recent oil and gas discoveries, requires Mozambique to position itself strategically to attract new investment.

In addition to exploration projects, the expansion of transport and processing infrastructures will be essential for the viability of Mozambique’s energy sector. During the event in Paris, initiatives such as the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, which aims to expand gas supplies from West Africa to Europe, and the East African oil pipeline, which runs through Uganda and Tanzania, will be highlighted.

The 2025 edition of Invest in African Energy will also address the growth of renewable energies in Africa, with an emphasis on green hydrogen. Countries such as Namibia, Mauritania and Egypt have already moved forward with large-scale projects in this sector, while Angola and South Africa are exploring their potential for sustainable energy production.

The event’s director, Sandra Jeque, emphasised the importance of the forum in attracting investment and strengthening the African energy sector. According to the organisers, the event has established itself as an essential platform for reaching agreements between global investors and African projects.

For Mozambique, participation in Invest in African Energy 2025 represents a strategic opportunity to establish partnerships and secure new funding for the development of its energy sector.

Against a backdrop of growing demand for natural gas, Mozambique is positioning itself as an essential supplier to international markets and is stepping up its efforts to expand domestic energy production and distribution capacity. The event in Paris will be a crucial meeting point for defining the future of energy investment in the country and across the African continent.
