The Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, revealed this Friday (19 April) that the multinational oil company ExxonMobil is mobilising resources and funding to resume its project in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.
In his report on his working visit to the United States of America (USA), as part of the International Conference on the Management of the Miombo Forest, Filipe Nyusi revealed that ExxonMobil considered, last July, that investment in natural gas in Mozambique is on track for a Final Investment Decision in 2025.
“They (ExxonMobil) were also more interested in the security situation, but it wasn’t too difficult to explain it to them,” Filipe Nyusi told the journalists who accompanied him on his trip to the USA.
The head of state emphasised that “ExxonMobil is keen to resume. The Executive is in almost constant talks with the multinational and they are currently in the process of mobilising resources and funding.”
Nyusi revealed that at the Conference on the Miombo Forest a Letter of Intent was produced that presents some issues, such as the principle of permanent financing and the management of existing areas of the Miombo forest. “This document calls on the signatory countries of the Maputo Declaration and all the key players to protect the existing areas and make room for the creation of new ones,” he said.
The Charter emphasises the importance of financing projects in the protection zones, focusing particularly on small and medium-sized companies oriented towards biodiversity businesses.
