ENI Reports Floating Platform Advances

Construction of the floating platform for the deep-water natural gas exploration project in the Rovuma Basin in Cabo Delgado province continues to make significant progress.

A source from Eni Rovuma Basin, the operator of the Coral Sul project, has assured that if everything continues as planned, the platform could arrive in Mozambique early next year.

He explained that with the work in progress at Samsung’s shipyards in South Korea, the activities relating to the installation of the hull, the residential part and the eight Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage tanks have already been concluded.

The 13 gas treatment and liquefaction modules as well as the anchor tower are also complete, according to the source.

He added that the integration activities of the modules and the commissioning as well as the preparation of the installation of a system called subsea are currently underway.

“The forecast is to complete everything in the time scheduled for the arrival of Coral Sul FLNG in Mozambique early next year,” he said.

As for the preparatory actions on Mozambican territory, the source confirmed the arrival of the vessel Saipem 1200, which is due to resume drilling of offshore wells later this month.

This work had been interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The same source also guarantees that the company has health as its top priority and has defined strict measures for the protection of its employees and contractors.

“The continuity of operations is also linked to maintaining logistical links in Mozambique,” he warned.
