Eni Strengthens Workforce for Gas Project in Rovuma

The natural gas exploration project at the Coral Sul fields continues to make progress, with the prospect of production starting next year.

To this end, the Italian oil company Eni announced yesterday the departure of eleven young Mozambican engineers to South Korea to participate in a six-month on-the-job training program.

The training covers the most varied areas of oil and gas and aims to meet the need for qualified professionals in this area in the country. A second group of 14 Mozambicans will begin their training at a gas facility in Tunisia in late June, with other groups already scheduled for the coming months.

The young Mozambicans are part of the “200 Program,” launched by Eni in 2014 to facilitate and enhance the participation of Mozambican staff in the company’s energy projects.

A source from the Italian oil company mentioned that the group is part of 40 finalists recruited through selection campaigns carried out in 2019 and 2020, in various Higher Education institutions.

The young people will be based in the city of Geoje, where construction activities of the Coral-South FLNG are underway, for their familiarization with the floating liquefaction platform.

This initiative aims to improve the local content and skills development of Mozambicans and is part of the Italian oil company’s commitment to contribute to the social and economic development of the communities and country in which it operates. Eni is the operator of the Coral Sul project, representing the partners in Area 4, namely ExxonMobil, CNPC, Galp, KOGAS and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos E.P.

The Coral Sul project will put into production considerable resources of the Coral gas field, discovered by Eni in 2012, through six wells with a depth of about 2 thousand meters, fed through a fully flexible system.

The FLNG platform is scheduled to start up in late 2021 and gas production in 2022.
