Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) announced this Tuesday the resumption of electricity supply to customers in the districts of Nicoadala and Namacurra in Macusse Administrative Post and Licuar village in Zambézia province.
The two districts had been deprived of electricity since Tropical Cyclone Freddy hit in March.
The rain and strong winds in that part of the country destroyed and flooded much electrical infrastructure, conditioning the replacement work, which has as a result lasted about two months.
According to the EDM communiqué released yesterday, electricity was restored in Inhassunge district on April 20th, but is still to be restored in the locality of Chirimane.
EDM gave assurances that technical teams from EDM are working on restoring the normal supply of electricity to the localities of Chirimane, Zalala and Madal and to the village of Supinho, which are all still without electricity.
“It is expected that by the end of this month [May] the situation will be back to normal in that region of the country,” the EDM communique reads.
