The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Carlos Zacarias, recently stated that the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) is going to increase its volume of electricity exports to neighbouring countries in the region (Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa), as a way of helping to increase the country’s earnings in this sector.
According to the leader, some memoranda of understanding have already been signed with these countries, which will put Mozambique in a prominent position in the energy sector.
“CCT is a strategic tool for the country’s development. We are planning to increase its export capacity,” he emphasised.
Scheduled to be inaugurated this year, the infrastructure will produce 450 MW and will supply low-cost, reliable electricity to Electricidade de Moçambique.
The process will be carried out using natural gas supplied by the Pande and Temane fields, operated by Sasol and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH).
Valued at 652.3 million dollars, the CCT will produce energy in a combined cycle, supplying an additional 1.5 million families.
