Commissioning and the start of activities at the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) project, initially scheduled for last year, have been rescheduled for the period between the second and third quarters of 2025, with the start of operations scheduled for 2 February 2026, the Agência de Informação de Moçambique (AIM) reported .
The decision was announced this Friday (10) by the project manager, Eucides Dgedge, who explained that the measure was taken due to the damage caused by the moderate tropical storm ‘Filipo’, which affected the district of Inhassoro, in Inhambane province, in March 2024. The storm damaged the site, especially the temporary pier, the landing area, the barge and the tugboat used to transport the equipment.
As well as destroying part of the essential infrastructure for transporting the equipment, the natural phenomenon also irreparably damaged boiler 12 and devastated around 50 per cent of the temporary pier. Due to the damage, the barge and tugboat were stranded 20 kilometres from the quay, making it impossible to transport the remaining boilers.
The heavy rains that hit the region also caused flooding, aggravating the delays in the work and, consequently, the rescheduling of the start of activities.
The readjustment of the commissioning and start-up dates will directly impact other projects related to CTT. The power transmission line, over 500 kilometres long (Temane Transmission Project – TTP), and the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) will have their schedules altered, compromising the overall planning and operation of the plant.
