Starting today, Thursday, June 11, in Maputo, the government and partners from Portugal and the European Union (EU) are discussing investment opportunities in the energy sector as part of the 5th edition of the Renewable Energy Business Conference in Mozambique (RENMOZ 2026).
In May, during the preparations, the EU ambassador to Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, said he expected clear results from the discussions, highlighting the launch of a €50 million tender for the private sector on mini-grids.
Maggiore also noted that an EU-funded contract worth 80 million euros for the Tete and Niassa solar power plants in the country’s Central and Northern regions will be finalized.
According to a statement reviewed by DE, RENMOZ is an event integrated into the Mozambique – European Union (Global Gateway) Forum and, through Friday, June 12, is hosting business meetings and presentations focused on the development of the energy sector, with an emphasis on renewable energy, financing, mini-grids, energy access programs, and investment opportunities in Mozambique.
This year’s conference will feature remarks by Estêvão Pale, Mozambique’s Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy; André Jato, Sweden’s Ambassador to Mozambique; Ricardo Pereira, President of the Mozambican Renewable Energy Association (AMER); and Mayra Pereira, President of the Lusophone Renewable Energy Association (ALER).
The event is organized in partnership with the European GET.invest program, funded by the EU and Germany, and is also supported by Mozambican authorities and various international partners under the Team Europe approach.
In March, Head of State Daniel Chapo called in Brussels for EU investment in the energy sector, noting that this is the path to establishing four million new connections and accelerating universal access to electricity by 2030 in Mozambique.
