Mozambique Will Have an Energy Production Center Based on Natural Gas

Mozambique will have an energy production center that will contribute to the stability and security of the national electricity system with the construction of the Temane Thermal Power Plant, based on natural gas.

Agreements to this effect are signed today, Monday, between the oil company Sasol, ENH and the company Electricidade de Moçambique.

The agreements result from the Final Investment Decision announced last February by the petrochemical company Sasol under the Production Sharing Contract and will enable the construction of the Temane Combined Cycle Thermal Power Plant, the Temane-Maputo Transmission Line and a light oil and LPG processing unit.

The two infrastructures (Temane Thermal Power Plant and the Temane Transmission Line) will ensure the availability of power generation to meet the growing demand for energy that our country is facing as a result of the ambitious national electrification program “Energy for All” which aims to ensure universal access to energy for all Mozambicans by 2030.

The construction of the natural gas-fired Temane Thermal Power Plant is a project that will significantly increase energy production capacity at a very competitive price for the country and the region.

This project also includes the construction of the Transmission Line between Temane and Maputo, which is an essential part of the country’s energy transportation backbone.

This power plant will create privileged conditions for the attraction and establishment of new industries and businesses in the provinces near its location, namely Inhambane and Gaza, where new productive units in the agro-processing, tourism and heavy sands exploration areas stand out.
