Maputo Province: EDM Invests Over 75 MM to Improve Energy Power Quality

The state-owned energy company, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), recently invested over 75 million meticals for the completion of the construction work of the substation in Khongolote neighbourhood, which will improve the quality of power supplied to the municipality of Matola, in Maputo province.

The information was advanced by the PCA of EDM, Marcelino Gildo, during a working visit to the infrastructure last week, to assess the availability of the substation for customers.

According to the PCA, the investment, based on the company’s own funds, also created conditions for improving the quality of services provided in the neighbourhoods of Infulene and Muhalaze also located in Maputo province.

Regarding the construction of the substation in the Khongolote neighborhood, Marcelino Gildo explained that he took advantage of “some equipment that we took from other substations that were remodeled, in the specific case of Machava, which received a new transformer. We also took advantage of the equipment recovered during the dismantling of the Greko plant, in Mozal.

EDM currently has about 2.7 million customers, with a goal of reaching six million by 2030.

Last year the company made a total of 348,000 new connections throughout the country, and another 320,000 are planned for 2023.
