The Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Puri, said on Monday 30 October that his country’s investment in the energy sector in Mozambique amounts to 11 billion dollars and is set to grow more and more in the coming years.
Speaking at the end of a meeting in Maputo with the head of the Mozambican state, Filipe Nyusi, the official revealed that the two countries are planning to increase trade, currently estimated at five billion dollars.
“Trade between our countries is around five billion dollars, but I believe that there is great potential to grow much more and raise other sectors,” said the Indian leader.
Hardeep Puri also discussed the possibility of helping Mozambique to produce biofuels given its high potential. “This is no coincidence, as India is one of the founding members of the Global Biofuels Alliance, which also includes Brazil and the United States of America.”
“Relations between Mozambique and India go back several centuries and so we are looking for other areas of investment to make our relations more vibrant,” he added.
