The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will take part in the Mozambique – European Union Global Gateway 2023 Investment Forum in November, where 18 million euros are expected to be made available for the country’s energy sector.
Speaking after a meeting with the president of the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, in Maputo, the European Union (EU) ambassador to Mozambique, Antonino Maggiore, said that “Commissioner Simson’s visit will give even greater impetus to this cooperation in the energy sector”.
The Mozambique – European Union Global Gateway Investment Forum will take place between 22 and 23 November in Maputo and will also be attended by the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi.
Antonino Maggiore said that during the forum several financing agreements will be announced for Mozambique, including 18 million euros for the construction of a National Energy Control Centre, which aims to ensure greater operational capacity of the Mozambican electricity grid.
“This [the 18 million euros] is an example and we’re going to have more (…) the idea is to finance impactful projects with infrastructural value, which is the fundamental concept of Global Gateway,” said Antonino Maggiore.
The forum, under the theme “Creating Business Opportunities”, is being held for the first time in Mozambique, and the main themes include discussions on the energy transition, industrialisation, agriculture and agri-business.
