FUNAE to Dispatch Technical Team to Assess Stalled Solar Project in Niassa

Mozambique's National Energy Fund (FUNAE) is expected to dispatch a technical team to Chiuta, in the district of Mecanhelas, Niassa province, to assess the conditions required to resume construction of a solar energy system that has been brought to a standstill.

The announcement was made by Niassa Governor Judite Massengele during a public rally held under the framework of open and inclusive governance, according to the Notícias newspaper.

According to the governor, the FUNAE team will evaluate the material, financial, and technical requirements of the project, with the aim of restarting work within the coming days.

"We recently met with the project managers, who confirmed they would send a technical team to Chiuta to assess the project's needs," said Judite Massengele.

Works were halted due to a range of constraints, chief among them a shortage of financial resources. Some equipment has already been installed on site, including the solar power plant itself and electricity transmission poles, but several components still need to be completed before the system can become operational.

The resumption of the project is eagerly awaited by residents of Chiuta, who hope to benefit from improved access to electricity and better conditions for economic and social activities. The project forms part of broader efforts to extend energy access to areas not yet connected to the national electricity grid.
