Eni Natural Energies Mozambique, an Eni company dedicated to energy transition activities, and the Dom Bosco Higher Institute (ISDB) marked the launch of the expansion of the improved stove production facility in Maputo Province on Monday (18).
The new infrastructure will be installed at the Salesian Vocational Training Center and is part of the Clean Kitchen Program, promoted by Eni in Sub-Saharan Africa, with the aim of expanding access to clean and sustainable energy.
Launched in 2023, the program has already facilitated the distribution of more than 200,000 stoves in the provinces of Maputo, Sofala, and Manica, benefiting approximately one million people.
The initiative aims to reduce the use of biomass and improve the health conditions of beneficiary populations, particularly the most vulnerable groups, through the use of more energy-efficient cooking solutions.
Currently, the project employs about 120 young Mozambicans across the entire value chain, from production to distribution of the stoves. With the new facilities, daily production capacity is expected to increase from about 350 to 500 stoves per day.
The expansion of the facility is also expected to create new jobs and strengthen the partnership between Eni and the Dom Bosco Higher Institute by providing technical training opportunities and internship programs for local students.
Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006, carrying out activities related to the production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the Coral Sul project and, in the future, the Coral Norte project, currently under construction, in addition to initiatives supporting the country’s energy transition.
Among these initiatives are the Clean Kitchen Program, the agricultural feedstock project linked to the biofuels value chain, and the REDD+ project—a forest conservation and deforestation emissions reduction initiative—implemented across an area of up to four million hectares in four provinces of the country. The company also supports economic diversification and access to education, healthcare, and water through a comprehensive sustainability plan.
