Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) launched an emergency intervention on the Namialo–Metoro High-Voltage Line on Wednesday at 05h00, targeting the principal infrastructure that supplies electricity to Cabo Delgado province. Service restoration was scheduled for 17h00.
According to a statement received by Diário Económico, electricity supply to customers across the entire province of Cabo Delgado — with the exception of Balama district — as well as to customers in Eráti district in Nampula province, was interrupted for the duration of the technical works.
EDM said the intervention was triggered by anomalies detected on the Namialo–Metoro High-Voltage Line, identified during monitoring works at the Mecuburi river crossing. The utility described the repairs as urgent, warning that failure to act promptly could result in significantly more prolonged outages.
The company noted that preparatory works were already under way with the aim of ensuring the intervention could be carried out safely and completed in the shortest time possible, minimising the impact on affected customers.
EDM also confirmed that during the intervention, electricity supply to essential services in the city of Pemba would be maintained through alternative sources to ensure continuity of those services.
“For the inconvenience this situation is causing to our valued customers and the general public in Cabo Delgado province and Eráti district in Nampula province, EDM extends its sincere apologies,” the statement read.
The utility appealed for the understanding of customers and the broader public affected by the temporary supply interruption while repair works on the Namialo–Metoro High-Voltage Line continued.
