Almost 50,000 customers in the south of the country have been left without electricity in recent hours due to the fall of more than 60 medium voltage poles, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) announced in a statement on Monday 28 October.
The public company explains that the situation mainly affects some neighbourhoods in Maputo and Gaza provinces, ‘as a result of the fall of 61 medium voltage poles’.
In a statement, EDM guarantees that there are technical teams on the ground, aiming to restore the normal supply of electricity, and that the culprit was the ‘bad weather that was felt’ last night in the south of the country, with heavy rain, wind and thunderstorms.
The company also calls for strict observance of prevention and safety measures in the affected areas.
