Area 4: 350 National Companies Registered for Local Content

A total of 350 Mozambican companies have so far been registered in the database of multinationals operating in the oil and gas sector in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, as part of the implementation of the local content plan.

According to the general manager of Eni Rovuma Basin, Giorgio Vicini, quoted in a report published on Wednesday, October 11, by Semanário Económico, of the total, 21% are Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) that have recently received training to improve their skills in the sector.

“With the implementation of the local content plan, the Coral Sul FLNG project seeks to maximize the participation of local companies in the supply of goods and services, promoting an environment for business development,” he said.

According to him, the Area 4 partners are committed to local growth and have therefore invested in professional and skills development, providing international exposure for their employees.

“Between 2022 and 2023, recent graduates from Mozambican universities benefited from scholarships for master’s degrees in Italy, in collaboration with our Italian counterparts. In addition, young engineers have been trained in production technology and are currently working on the project. Their average age is 28 and this new generation of talent is fundamental to Eni’s plans to continue investing in and developing Mozambique,” he said.

Giorgio Vicini added that as part of the collaboration with partners, Eni is also supporting the National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH) in the professional development of its staff.

“We receive ENH employees who are involved in various support areas, as a way of developing their skills,” he explained.

On September 26 this year, the Coral Sul FLNG project registered its 28th shipment of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) produced from the Coral gas field, in the ultra-deep waters of the Rovuma basin.
