Wall Street Bullish on Strong Earnings by Vaccine Manufacturers

The main US indices opened higher, extending the optimism of the European session, boosted by easing restrictions in several regions and assurances from the authorities that inflation will remain under control.

The Dow Jones industrial index advances 0.59% to 34,069.26 points, while the Nasdaq technology index adds 0.46% to 14,026.13 points. The S&P500, meanwhile, is up 0.56% to 4,204.27 points.

On Friday, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen delivered a reassuring message that the Biden administration’s stimulus should not create inflationary pressures, as its effect will be spread over an extended period of time.

The latest data show, however, that stimulus to the economy contributed to the largest monthly rise in yields since 1946 and that the Fed’s preferred measure of inflation posted the largest increase since 2018.

Among the listed companies, vaccine makers stood out, with BioNTech shooting up 7.9% to $203.16 and Moderna appreciating 4.63% to $187.09.
