European stock futures are down slightly on Monday, pointing to a negative start to the week on the Old Continent’s stock exchanges, after lower-than-expected Chinese manufacturing data in May suggested that the recovery in the world’s second-largest economy may have lost momentum.
Euro Stoxx 50 futures are down 0.2%, while US S&P 500 futures are up 0.1%.
In the Asian session, the Chinese Shanghai Composite traded little changed, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 0.6%, and Japan’s Topix lost 1.3%, due to fears about a prolonged state of emergency to contain the coronavirus.
This Monday, both the London and US stock exchanges are closed due to holiday celebrations.
