The Mozambique Stock Exchange (BVM) and the Higher Institute of Science and Technology of Mozambique (ISCTEM), through the School of Economics and Business Management, held last April 5 in Maputo, the launch of the first scientific conferences on capital market and stock exchange, under the general theme “The Stock Market as a Mechanism for Financing the Economy”.
With this initiative, the two institutions intend to promote research on the capital market and stock market, create a space for debate, stimulate the dissemination of information to the public, and reflect on alternative ways to accelerate the development of the economy.
Speaking during the event, BVM’s PCA, Salim Valá, said that the partnership comes as a way to stimulate scientific research and establish service innovation with a view to economic development, the financial system and the capital market.
“BVM intends to learn from the academic community on how to fulfill its mission more effectively, efficiently and effectively. To have access to criticism and suggestions on how to do more with fewer resources, as well as make more impact on activities that are sustainable,” explained Salim Valá.
According to the source, the Mozambican academic community is prepared to provide the basis for finding solutions to some of the constraints faced.
“We should work to improve the economic and financial health of companies, to know how they can strengthen their governance and management, as well as what actions can be taken to reduce costs so that more companies can have organized accounting and audited accounts. We will also study how the capital market can finance the SMEs”, he detailed.
The first scientific conferences on capital markets and stock exchanges will take place next November, at a date and place to be determined in due course.
