The CEO of the Mozambique Stock Exchange (BVM), Salim Valá, announced on Monday 29 January that the stock market capitalisation has grown by almost 200% since 2016. However, he pointed to the need to diversify operations beyond Treasury Bonds.
“Since BVM began operating in 1999, market capitalisation has grown positively, with a notable increase since 2016, which has seen an increase of almost 200% by the end of 2023”, he said.
According to the official, this evolution resulted from the appreciation of the stock market and the bond markets, Treasury Bonds, Corporate Bonds and Commercial Paper.
“Despite the adverse economic factors, this growth shows the resilience of the capital market,” he added.
According to updated figures, BVM’s capitalisation reached 164.2 billion meticals at the end of December 2022 and rose to 183.9 billion meticals in 2023.
