Europe’s major indices are pointing to a slightly lower open as rising international oil prices — driven by ongoing US and Iranian military exchanges — push investors away from risk assets.
In Asia, Japanese markets were closed for a public holiday, while the MSCI Asia-Pacific index fell 0.3%. In China, the Shanghai Composite slipped 0.28%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 1.8%. South Korea’s Kospi dropped 4%, extending last week’s losses in a move analysts cited by Reuters attributed to retail investors unwinding leveraged positions.
Attention this week is firmly on the technology sector’s earnings season. Alphabet, Intel and Tesla are all scheduled to report second-quarter results. The sector is under renewed scrutiny following last Friday’s announcement by Chinese artificial intelligence company Moonshot that its new model, Kimi K3, outperforms several benchmark models from major US technology groups in performance tests.
