France remains one of the world’s most sought-after tourist destinations, thanks to its diverse landscapes, picturesque rural villages and elegant coastal cities.
A report published in 2023 by GlobalData predicted that the country could receive 97.3 million annual visitors by 2025, reinforcing its position at the top of global preferences.
That leadership, however, may shift in the coming decades. The study “NextGen Travellers and Destinations”, conducted by Google and Deloitte, concludes that Spain will take first place worldwide in 2040, with 110 million travellers per year — surpassing France (105 million) and the United States (100 million).
The projection has solid grounds. With around 300 days of sunshine per year, Spain continues to be the preferred destination for British tourists seeking warm weather and affordable flights, as noted by Condé Nast Traveller. Golden-sand beaches, a varied gastronomic offering and family-focused hotels further enhance the country’s appeal.
Growth is already evident. In 2023, the country welcomed 84 million visitors, a record figure that is driving the opening of new restaurants, hotels and bars. In March 2024, Spain registered 6.3 million international tourists — 21% more than in the same month of the previous year, according to the Spanish National Statistics Institute.
