Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park has been crowned Africa’s Leading National Park for the seventh consecutive year at the 2025 World Travel Awards, reaffirming its status as one of the continent’s most iconic conservation areas.
Stretching across northern Tanzania into south-western Kenya, the Serengeti remains a global symbol of unspoilt wilderness and ecological grandeur. Its most celebrated phenomenon—the Great Migration—sees over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles undertake a 3,000-kilometre journey in search of fresh grazing and water. This annual event, hailed as one of the greatest natural spectacles on Earth, not only captivates visitors but also sustains the park’s delicate ecological balance.
Beyond the migration, the Serengeti is home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. It hosts all of the “Big Five”—lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhinoceros—alongside cheetahs, hyenas, crocodiles, giraffes, and more than 500 bird species. Its expansive landscapes, which include open savannahs, acacia woodlands, riverine forests, and granite kopjes, support one of the most vibrant and complex ecosystems in the world.
This seventh consecutive win at the World Travel Awards highlights Tanzania’s continued efforts in conservation and eco-tourism. The government and its partners have prioritised sustainable tourism practices that protect biodiversity while supporting local communities.
The Serengeti’s enduring appeal and ecological significance not only boost Tanzania’s global tourism profile but also position it as a leader in environmental stewardship. As demand for authentic nature-based travel experiences grows, the park stands as a shining example of how responsible tourism can preserve heritage while delivering economic value.
