German firm Bovensiepen has unveiled the Spider, a modified version of the BMW Z4 M40i developed by the family that founded Alpina, in partnership with designer Frank Stephenson. The model receives upgrades to its engine, suspension, and bodywork, with production capped at just 99 units.
Based on the BMW Z4 M40i, the Spider retains the 3.0-litre straight-six engine but now produces 435hp and 580Nm of torque, compared with 340hp in the standard version. The performance gains stem from modifications to the intake and exhaust systems.
According to Bovensiepen, the Spider accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the standard Z4 M40i. Power is delivered through an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
The model also receives retuned dampers, lighter forged wheels, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres. An optional Performance Pack adds a milled aluminium cover to keep the differential cooled, a V-brace on the underside of the body, and raises the top speed from 260km/h to 295km/h. Buyers may also opt for an upgraded braking system.
Externally, the Spider is distinguished by 20-inch wheels, custom ventilation intakes on the wheel arches, a gloss black front splitter, side skirts, and a larger rear spoiler. Inside, the seats combine Vernasca leather and Alcantara, while the steering wheel is trimmed in Lavalina leather. A fully leather-wrapped dashboard is available as an option.
Bovensiepen plans to build just 99 units of the Spider. In Germany, the model carries a starting price of €115,500 including taxes. Personalisation options — including bespoke paint finishes, Alcantara trim, and custom upholstery — may increase the final price. First deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
