Wikkelhouse is a sustainably manufactured cardboard house that has revolutionised the construction industry. Created by the Holland studio Fiction Factory, the property consists of a total of 24 layers of virgin cardboard fibre, obtained from Scandinavian trees, on a house-shaped mould.
The different layers adhere to each other with a sustainable glue, thus creating a resistant and insulating structure. The construction is finished with an outer covering of wood and aluminium that protects it from any weather phenomenon. It has a useful life of at least 50 years and respects up to three times more the environment than any traditional construction.
Each client can choose exactly how they want it, not only in the size (junction of the blocks), but also the arrangement of the windows and other details. The basic price of each house is 30 thousand euros. But normally, according to the official website, they have been sold between 50 and 85 thousand euros (they vary depending on the size).
Wikkelhouses have a bathroom and kitchen. They are manufactured in the Netherlands and sold to the same country as well as to Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, the United Kingdom and Scandinavia.
