Telecommunications Sector Generated Over 20.2B Meticals in 2023

In 2023, the Telecommunications sector generated more than 20.2 billion meticals, representing growth of 17.7% compared to 2022, when the figure stood at 17.2 billion meticais.

According to the budget execution report drawn up by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the positive performance is associated with the expansion and modernization of mobile telephony to the districts, as well as the use of post offices and mobile wallets.

“The volume of services provided in communications and information had a positive performance. Production, at current prices, in the fixed telecommunications sector also grew by 21.9% in 2023, to 5.8 billion meticals, while in mobile it increased by 16.2%, to 14.2 billion meticals,” he said.

According to the document published on Wednesday, March 20, by Lusa, growth in postal services was 5.6%, standing at 212.3 million meticals.

Three mobile phone companies currently operate in the country – Vodacom, Movitel and the state-owned Mozambique Telecom (Tmcel).
