Government Installs 143 New Antennas to Strengthen Telecommunications Quality

The Government has installed 143 new telecommunications antennas across all provinces to improve service coverage and quality, and has also completed 500 legally valid digital signatures.

“In the area of telecommunications expansion, we installed 143 new antennas in the provinces of Cabo Delgado (13), Gaza (8), Inhambane (14), Manica (14), Maputo City (14), Maputo Province (20), Nampula (24), Niassa (5), Sofala (15), Tete (11), and Zambézia (5),” detailed Américo Muchanga, Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation.

In addition to improving communication quality in Mozambique, these new infrastructures also aim to ensure connectivity for all citizens, including those living in rural and remote areas, the minister underlined during the opening of the first Coordinating Council of the sector, held in Maputo under the theme “Communications and Digital Transformation in the Service of Citizens and Economic Development.”

Muchanga reiterated that his institution’s goal is “to ensure that communications and digital transformation contribute rapidly to Mozambique’s growth and development, placing citizens at the center of public services, regardless of their geographic location.”

Among the recorded achievements, the minister also highlighted the completion of 500 legally valid digital signatures across three institutions — the Office of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Education and Culture, and Eduardo Mondlane University — under Mozambique’s Digital Certification System. “This digital signature platform already exists and is being expanded so that all institutions can use it. Technology will be our ally in accelerating the digitalization of state services, making them more accessible, faster, and safer,” he stated.

Américo Muchanga also pointed to the connection of 199 public schools to broadband internet nationwide through the “Internet in Schools” initiative, the installation of ten digital plazas — one per province — offering free internet access, and the distribution of laptops to students.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation emphasized that the government’s goal is to ensure that by 2030, all Mozambicans live in areas with access to telecommunications services, strengthening connectivity and promoting digital inclusion centers such as digital plazas and telecenters that provide free internet access.
