Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Smart Door Lock 5C, an intelligent door lock that combines multiple unlocking methods with advanced security features and integration into the company’s smart home ecosystem.
The device uses a Class C lock cylinder and incorporates a clutch mechanism installed in the main body, designed to resist tampering attempts through the exterior panel.
Among its key features is a fingerprint reader built into the door handle. According to Xiaomi, the sensor can recognise a fingerprint in approximately half a second and adapts biometric data to usage patterns over time.
Beyond biometrics, the lock supports multiple access methods, including conventional, temporary, and virtual passwords, mechanical key, Bluetooth, and NFC. Compatible Xiaomi smartphones, smartwatches, and fitness bands can all be used to unlock the door.
One of the security features is a duress fingerprint function. In emergency situations, the user can deploy this fingerprint to unlock the door while the lock simultaneously sends a silent alert.
The Smart Door Lock 5C can also be integrated into home automation systems via a Bluetooth Mesh gateway. Users can, for example, configure an automation routine to switch off the air conditioning when they leave the home.
The lock’s onboard sensors can send remote notifications when the door is left open, when an incorrect password is entered repeatedly, or when someone attempts to remove the front panel.
The lock is powered by four AA alkaline batteries and, according to Xiaomi, can operate for up to one year. When charge runs low, an emergency button allows for a limited number of additional unlocks. Should the batteries be fully depleted, an external USB-C port enables a power bank to be temporarily connected to supply the device.
The lock is engineered to operate in temperatures ranging from -25°C to 70°C. The Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 5C is currently available for pre-order in China at 659 yuan, approximately US$98, in a Starry Black finish.
