Web Summit Lisbon: Innovators Gather

The 2025 edition will take place from November 10 to 13. With artificial intelligence at the center of attention, heated debates are expected on topics such as ethics in technology, regulation, and more.

The Web Summit — one of the world’s largest technology and innovation conferences — is returning once again, bringing together tech companies, startups, investors, policymakers, media, and social organizations. It was founded in 2009 by Paddy Cosgrave, David Kelly, and Daire Hickey, originally in Dublin, Ireland. In 2016, it moved to Lisbon, where it has been held annually ever since.

The 2025 edition will run for four days, from November 10 to 13, featuring more than 20 key themes, including fintech, commerce, artificial intelligence (AI), and SaaS (software as a service). Thousands of startups, exhibitors, investors, and global corporations will take part. Major global brands such as Meta, Samsung, Visa, and Adobe are among the event’s partners and sponsors.

Beyond networking, visibility, and investment opportunities, the conference serves as a platform for launching ideas, offering advanced training, and hosting startup competitions. It will also foster vital discussions on global topics such as technology ethics, regulation, sustainability, and social impact.

The Web Summit also has a notable economic impact on Lisbon. It boosts the city’s hospitality, catering, transportation, tourism, and infrastructure sectors, while increasing its international visibility — a clear example of how events of this scale generate revenue and growth. Additionally, it helps position Portugal as a European innovation hub and a gateway to global markets.

Connections with Africa

A significant part of the Web Summit’s strategy and content focuses on Africa. The participation of African startups and entrepreneurs will be highlighted through sessions dedicated to pan-African success stories, continent-specific investment initiatives, and masterclasses for startups operating in Africa.

For example, in 2024, there was a session titled “Building a $16M Fund and Accelerating Pan-African Success,” hosted by Ferna Technologies. Partnerships with Africa-focused organizations — such as Tech Connect Africa, which collaborates with Web Summit Lisbon — have further strengthened ties with the continent’s tech ecosystem.

There will also be discussions on technology, diaspora, culture, and leadership, with panels exploring how African innovation intersects with these themes — showing how cultural identity, leadership, and the diaspora contribute to the continent’s sustainable development.

More than 70,000 participants expected
